Someday I want to sell. Do you have any Advise?

Hi Shirley!

You don’t know me but I know you very well from the website you owned & managed.  I always used your website, www.americanbridal.com, as a benchmark because it was always in the top 3 in Google.  I currently run (competitor website name here)  by myself and will one day achieve your level of success I hope.

I saw in a post that you sold your company, congrats!  Do the buying company approach you or did you approach them?  I’m just curious because one day I do hope to sell mine, but that may take a little while while I try to build up my website.  Was there one top thing that you recommend that I pursue to grow my business?

Thank you again and hope to be financially successful like you!

Today was my last day at AmericanBridal.com

Well, its about 12.07 am PST, so technically, it was yesterday that was my last day, and I can’t sleep.

I’m not quite sure how to feel about leaving the company I founded. I know that its in good hands with the new Director of Ecommerce, Cassie T., but I can’t help feeling nostalgic about leaving my baby behind. Last year, I sold AmericanBridal.com to TheKnot.com, and I knew that someday that I would have to leave it, but I didn’t realize that the year would go by so fast.

Intellectually I know its not a baby, it’s a business, and businesses get created and eventually sold. There were so many times that I actually imagined this day would come, and I thought that I would be thrilled. Don’t get me wrong – I am actually happy that I now have the opportunity for a new chapter in my life, new adventures in the business world, and a chance to rest and relax, which I have been looking forward to and needing for a very very long time. (Don’t we all need some time off?!)

I want to thank all my family, friends and business colleagues who have supported and worked with me tirelessly over the years (since 1985), who never got impatient with my endless barrage of questions (asked 5 different ways — only sometimes), and who always shared their knowledge, experiences and wisdom. To all of you I am deeply grateful.

Not so fast Mister/Mam… we’re all still so young and there are still so many rocks left unturned, unscrutinized and undiscovered.  I look forward to so many more encounters with you all.

Again, thank you for putting up with me.

Gearing up for Summer

So now that winter is over and everyone is shedding the thick layers of warm clothing, swimsuits are coming out from hibernation.  This also means that certain soft spots on the body are making an appearance, as well.  After donning a swimsuit last week while on vacation, I realized that now is the best time to hit the gym harder and eat better so that I can feel confident by the time summer is in full swing.  Over the next few weeks, I’ll be researching various diet and exercise tips, and I’ll be sure to share the good ones on here.

Just a word of caution – experts agree that the best way to lose weight is diet an exercise.  Exercise routines will be successful if you work out because of the inner benefits you receive – more energy, better circulation, strength and improved cardiovascular and organ function.  By diet, they do not mean a temporary fix to fluctuating weight, but a full makeover of your eating habits.  Eat what you want, but be sure to portion amounts appropriately and you’ll be successful.

Experts also agree that the best diets are the ones that stick as closely to nature as possible.  Your body can more easily break down items that have been processed as little as possible (aka, the way nature intended them).  The following article has some shocking information about processed food and why it’s so harsh on your body:

The trick is to make better decisions while you’re grocery shopping.  By choosing foods your body easily breaks down and converts to energy, you’ll fuel your body, thereby increasing metabolism and decreasing your fat intake.  Although every body is beautiful and unique, most women feel insecure about the tiniest flaws – the best way to begin your transformation is by boosting your confidence.  Understand that holding your head high and flashing a winning smile is the best way to create a better image.  Once you’ve got that covered, the rest is easy.
